{"id":20957,"date":"2016-09-23T09:00:47","date_gmt":"2016-09-23T12:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/patagoniambiental.com.ar\/?p=20957"},"modified":"2016-09-23T09:00:47","modified_gmt":"2016-09-23T12:00:47","slug":"groenlandia-pierde-mas-hielo-de-lo-estimado-segun-un-nuevo-estudio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/patagoniambiental.com.ar\/info\/groenlandia-pierde-mas-hielo-de-lo-estimado-segun-un-nuevo-estudio\/","title":{"rendered":"Groenlandia pierde m\u00e1s hielo de lo estimado, seg\u00fan un nuevo estudio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"entradilla\">Un grupo internacional de cient\u00edficos ha detectado errores en la medici\u00f3n de la elevaci\u00f3n de la base rocosa de Groenlandia que indican que la p\u00e9rdida de masa de su capa de hielo es m\u00e1s grande de lo que se estimaba previamente.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan este trabajo, publicado en <em>\u201cScience Advances\u201d<\/em>, hasta ahora el llamado ajuste isost\u00e1tico glacial, es decir, la elevaci\u00f3n del lecho de roca que se produce al fundirse el hielo que tiene encima, no fue tenido en cuenta <strong>de forma correcta<\/strong> al medir la masa de los glaciares con los datos de las observaciones del sat\u00e9lite Grace.<\/p>\n<p>Los nuevos c\u00e1lculos revelan que la p\u00e9rdida de masa entre 2004 a 2015 ha sido de 272 gigatoneladas por a\u00f1o y no de 253, como se hab\u00eda calculado antes, seg\u00fan ha comunicado el Centro de Estudios Geol\u00f3gicos (GFZ) de Potsdam (Alemania), participante junto al Instituto Alfred Wegener en el estudio liderado por Shfaqat A. Kahn, de la Universidad T\u00e9cnica de Dinamarca.<\/p>\n<p>El levantamiento de la base rocosa se produce por el adelgazamiento de la capa de hielo de Groenlandia desde el \u00daltimo M\u00e1ximo Glacial (LGM, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s) hace 20.000 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>Los cient\u00edficos pudieron medir esa elevaci\u00f3n con una<strong> nueva red de GPS<\/strong> en la que se colocaron los sensores directamente sobre el lecho de roca que rodea la capa de hielo.<\/p>\n<p>La gran capa de hielo que cubr\u00eda Groenlandia en el pasado, apunta el GFZ, ejerc\u00eda presi\u00f3n sobre la litosfera, un proceso que ahora se est\u00e1 invirtiendo y que hay que tener en cuenta al medir la elevaci\u00f3n de la superficie de los glaciares y de las capas de hielo.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan los investigadores, la elevaci\u00f3n est\u00e1 determinada por la <strong>masa de hielo<\/strong> y tambi\u00e9n por las propiedades de la tierra bajo ese hielo -la litosfera y el manto-, aunque en estudios previos no se tuvo en cuenta el pasado geol\u00f3gico de Groenlandia.<\/p>\n<p>Hace cuarenta a\u00f1os, la placa en la que se hallaba Groenlandia pas\u00f3 sobre un<em> \u201cpunto caliente\u201d<\/em> debido a los movimientos tect\u00f3nicos, lo que provoc\u00f3 un adelgazamiento de su litosfera superior, por ejemplo, al del caso escandinavo.<\/p>\n<p>Las nuevas mediciones con la red de GPS mostraron que la elevaci\u00f3n de la roca es mayor de la estimada previamente y apuntan a una mayor p\u00e9rdida de hielo desde el \u00daltimo M\u00e1ximo Glacial: si se calculaba que el deshielo de Groenlandia desde entonces <strong>hab\u00eda elevado en 3,2 metros<\/strong> el nivel del mar, el nuevo estudio sit\u00faa esa cifra en los 4,6 metros.<\/p>\n<p>Las mayores discrepancias entre las anteriores y las actuales mediciones se detectaron en el noroeste y el sureste de Groenlandia, regiones probablemente m\u00e1s sensibles al clima de lo que se pensaba, lo que lleva a los cient\u00edficos a pronosticar que el deshielo de la isla contribuir\u00e1 de manera significativa a aumentar el nivel del mar en los pr\u00f3ximos siglos.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fuente:
