g\u00e9nero <em>Rhodotorula<\/em> aisladas del suelo de la Ant\u00e1rtida cerca de Carlini, una de las 13 bases cient\u00edficas en el continente blanco en la isla del 25 de Mayo, la doctora Silvana Vi\u00f1arta, investigadora de la Planta Piloto de Procesos Industriales Microbiologicos (PROIMI), observ\u00f3 que bajo determinadas condiciones de cultivo, dos cepas de <em>Rhodotorula glutinis<\/em> y una de <em>Rhodotorula glacialis<\/em> ten\u00edan alta capacidad para acumular l\u00edpidos neutros (aceites), una materia prima que puede convertirse en biodiesel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSon excelentes candidatas como productoras de una materia prima alternativa a los aceites vegetales en la producci\u00f3n de biodiesel, y otras aplicaciones biotecnol\u00f3gicas\u201d, indic\u00f3 Vi\u00f1arta.<\/p>\n<p>Asimismo, seg\u00fan un estudio publicado en la revista \u201c<em>Journal of Basic Microbiology<\/em>\u201d, tambi\u00e9n se mostr\u00f3 que los aceites acumulados por esas levaduras son ricos en \u00e1cidos grasos omega 3 y 6, insumos de mucho inter\u00e9s para la industria farmac\u00e9utica y alimentaria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSon capaces de acumular l\u00edpidos en poco tiempo (3 \u2013 10 d\u00edas), crecer en diferentes sustratos de bajo costo como residuos o subproductos agroindustriales, requieren menor n\u00famero de operaciones y son f\u00e1ciles de escalar\u201d, remarc\u00f3 la investigadora de PROIMI y agreg\u00f3: \u201cAdem\u00e1s, como se pueden multiplicar en biorreactores convencionales, no requieren tierras f\u00e9rtiles para su cultivo y no compiten con los alimentos\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div
