El gran bloque de hielo de nuestro planeta se derrite, pero el aumento de la temperatura tambi\u00e9n sentencia a las capas de hielo de Groenlandia, de Alaska o del Himalaya. La principal consecuencia es m\u00e1s que conocida: el aumento del nivel del mar. Pero no en todas las ciudades costeras el aumento ser\u00e1 por igual, por eso un equipo de cient\u00edficos de la\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.elconfidencial.com\/tags\/temas\/nasa-7647\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASA<\/a>\u00a0ha desarrollado una herramienta para pronosticar cu\u00e1nta costa se comer\u00e1 el deshielo durante los pr\u00f3ximos cien a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>La herramienta \u00abproporciona, para cada ciudad, una imagen de qu\u00e9 glaciares, capas de hielo y casquetes polares tienen importancia o c\u00f3mo afectar\u00e1 en su futuro\u00bb el aumento del nivel del mar, explica el cient\u00edfico principal de\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jet Propulsion Laboratory<\/a>\u00a0(JPL) de la NASA,\u00a0<strong>Erik Ivins<\/strong>, en un art\u00edculo recientemene publicado en la revista &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/advances.sciencemag.org\/content\/3\/11\/e1700537\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science Advances<\/a>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/vesl.jpl.nasa.gov\/research\/sea-level\/slr-gfm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[Pincha aqu\u00ed para utilizar la herramienta de la NASA]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Es decir, el programa monitoriza c\u00f3mo afectar\u00eda, por ejemplo, el deshielo en los Andes a\u00a0<strong>Santiago de Chile<\/strong>\u00a0o de las capas del hielo de Groenlandia a\u00a0<strong>Oporto<\/strong>\u00a0o\u00a0<strong>Marsella<\/strong>. Este m\u00e9todo es el \u00fanico recurso, hasta el momento, que combina lugares espec\u00edficos de fusi\u00f3n del hielo con sus efectos en las principales ciudades costeras del planeta.<\/p>\n<p>Con este pron\u00f3stico, las ciudades pueden prevenir y saber qu\u00e9 capas son por las que \u00ab<strong>deber\u00edan preocuparse m\u00e1s<\/strong>\u00bb conforme avance el deshielo a causa del cambio clim\u00e1tico. La herramienta sugiere, por ejemplo, que en el caso de\u00a0<strong>Barcelona<\/strong>, son los cambios en las capas de hielo de Groenlandia las que aumentar\u00edan el nivel del Mar Mediterr\u00e1neo en su costa.<\/p>\n<div class=\"articlephoto news-width-text\">\n<figure class=\"news-img-figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"news-img-def \" src=\"https:\/\/www.ecestaticos.com\/image\/clipping\/654\/0426c882559adfb2590596d32227d354\/nasa-barcelona.jpg\" alt=\"Las capas de hielo en las zonas con tono c\u00e1lido son las que m\u00e1s afectar\u00e1n a Barcelona (NASA)\" width=\"654\" height=\"445\" \/><figcaption class=\"news-img-caption-def\">Las capas de hielo en las zonas con tono c\u00e1lido son las que m\u00e1s afectar\u00e1n a Barcelona (NASA)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Seg\u00fan el estudio publicado, cuando las capas de hielo se derriten\u00a0<strong>el agua no se distribuye de igual manera<\/strong>\u00a0entre los oc\u00e9anos y las zonas costeras de planeta y, por tanto, el nivel del mar no aumenta de manera proporcional, sino que son varios los factores que act\u00faan en esta redistribuci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>La herramienta desarrollada por los cient\u00edficos de la NASA analiza c\u00f3mo\u00a0<strong>afectan la rotaci\u00f3n y gravedad<\/strong>\u00a0de la tierra para predecir c\u00f3mo se redistribuir\u00e1 el agua que provenga del deshielo. De esta manera, los cient\u00edficos tratan de hacer una advertencia para que ciudades y pa\u00edses puedan adelantarse a los efectos y \u00abmitigar las\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.elconfidencial.com\/tags\/otros\/inundaciones-6202\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inundaciones<\/a>. Tienen que pensar en cien a\u00f1os desde hoy si quieren evaluar los posibles riesgos\u00bb.<\/p>\n<h4>Gravedad, masa y rotaci\u00f3n<\/h4>\n<p>Seg\u00fan los investigadores son tres los procesos clave que influyen en la \u00abhuella del nivel del mar\u00bb o patr\u00f3n por el que cambia el nivel del mar. El primero de ellos es la gravedad: \u00abEstas (capas de hielo) son masas enormes que\u00a0<strong>ejercen una atracci\u00f3n sobre el oc\u00e9ano<\/strong>. Cu\u00e1ndo el hielo se encoge, la atracci\u00f3n disminuye y el mar se aleja de esa masa\u00bb, explica el investigador. RODRIGO<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"text-related\">Esta semana, la ONU debatir\u00e1 en su asamblea general la petici\u00f3n de una ONG para que la basura que flota en el mar se pueda declarar como pa\u00eds independiente<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<p>El segundo radica en que el suelo que hay bajo la capa de hielo que se derrite se \u00abexpande de manera vertical\u00bb. Y, por \u00faltimo, \u00aba medida que el planeta gira y cambian las masas en su superficie, tambi\u00e9n se modifica. Y eso, a su vez,\u00a0<strong>redistribuye el agua alrededor de la Tierra<\/strong>\u00ab, a\u00f1ade.<\/p>\n<p>El cient\u00edfico explica que cuando se tienen en cuenta todos estos factores, \u00abse puede calcular la sensibilidad exacta que tiene una ciudad al aumento del nivel del mar respecto a la masa de un bloque de hielo\u00bb. Y, por tanto, con esta herramienta se puede ofrecer de manera r\u00e1pida \u00ab<strong>resultados de alta resoluci\u00f3n<\/strong>\u00bb sobre las consecuencias que el calentamiento global tendr\u00e1 en una ciudad si el ser humano no lo
