fotocatalizar<\/strong>\u00a0la rotura de la mol\u00e9cula de agua para obtener una\u00a0<strong>mol\u00e9cula de hidr\u00f3geno<\/strong>\u00a0y una de ox\u00edgeno.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"imagenin img-fluid pull-left mr-40 mb-15\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ecoticias.com\/userfiles\/2018\/Mar_14\/Tecnologia_82_original.jpg\" alt=\"Tecnolog\u00eda verde para obtener hidr\u00f3geno, uno de los combustibles del futuro\" \/><\/p>\n<p>El hidr\u00f3geno es el combustible potencial m\u00e1s limpio de que podr\u00edamos disponer, con el reto es conseguir un procedimiento limpio que permita dejar de usar\u00a0<strong>combustibles f\u00f3siles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Los miembros del proyecto COMPHOCAT, liderado por el catedr\u00e1tico Francesc Illas, director del Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n de Qu\u00edmica Te\u00f3rica y Computacional de la Universidad de Barcelona (IQTCUB), han estudiado las propiedades de este \u00f3xido en la nanoescala para construir modelos computacionales que simulen el comportamiento de las nanopart\u00edculas que se utilizar\u00e1n en la pr\u00e1ctica.<\/p>\n<p>Algunos de los avances los publican en The Journal of Physical Chemistry C.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bg-accent mt-50 mb-50\" cite=\"http:\/\/www.ecoticias.com\/tecnologia-verde\/181850\/Tecnologia-verde-para-obtener-hidrogeno-uno-de-los-combustibles-del-futuro?utm_source=MailingList&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=15%2F03%2F2018#\"><p>Una de las propiedades principales que tiene es la capacidad de fotocatalizar la rotura de la mol\u00e9cula de agua para obtener una mol\u00e9cula de hidr\u00f3geno y una de ox\u00edgeno.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u00abHasta ahora, no ha sido posible identificar fotocatalizadores de TiO2 con actividad en la regi\u00f3n de la luz visible, lo que limita sus aplicaciones pr\u00e1cticas\u00bb, explica Illas, que a\u00f1ade: \u00abPara conseguir que un fotocatalizador sea pr\u00e1ctico necesitamos obtener luz en el rango ultravioleta, en el que el TiO2 funciona mejor, o bien modificar el compuesto para que tenga las mismas caracter\u00edsticas con luz visible\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan el investigador, la primera opci\u00f3n queda descartada \u00abporque no se puede recoger luz ultravioleta suficiente a partir de la luz solar, ya que la atm\u00f3sfera absorbe la luz de este rango\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>El segundo caso (modificar las nanopart\u00edculas de TiO2) es lo que se est\u00e1 estudiando desde el IQTCUB.<\/p>\n<p>El equipo ha creado modelos realistas de diversas nanopart\u00edculas de TiO2en las que se han estudiado las propiedades electr\u00f3nicas empleando m\u00e9todos basados \u200b\u200ben la teor\u00eda del funcional de la densidad, y ha llevado a cabo c\u00e1lculos precisos teniendo en cuenta todos los electrones e incluyendo efectos relativistas.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abLa geometr\u00eda de cada part\u00edcula ha sido determinada por la minimizaci\u00f3n de la energ\u00eda, una t\u00e9cnica utilizada para obtener la\u00a0<strong>distribuci\u00f3n de \u00e1tomos m\u00e1s estable para una mol\u00e9cula<\/strong>\u00ab, apunta Illas.<\/p>\n<p>Las propiedades electr\u00f3nicas se han estudiado como funci\u00f3n del tama\u00f1o y forma de la nanopart\u00edcula.<\/p>\n<h3>Candidatas a la ventana de la luz visible<\/h3>\n<p>\u00abEstos modelos de la estructura del TiO2 han permitido construir una base de datos con nanopart\u00edculas que debidamente modificadas, ser\u00edan candidatas con un espectro de absorci\u00f3n adecuado a la ventana de la luz visible\u00bb, afirma el investigador de la
