El\u00a0<b>cohete Falcon 9\u00a0<\/b>de SpaceX , que puso en \u00f3rbita a los dos sat\u00e9lites<b>\u00a0este martes a las 21:47 hora peninsular<\/b>, complet\u00f3 su despegue tal y como se esperaba.<\/p>\n<p>Durante cinco a\u00f1os, la misi\u00f3n GRACE-FO (continuaci\u00f3n de la misi\u00f3n predecesora, GRACE) llevar\u00e1 a cabo la<b>\u00a0medici\u00f3n de los cambios gravitacionales\u00a0<\/b>de nuestro planeta y su efecto en las aguas, el hielo, la superficie terrestre y el clima, recopilando datos que, posteriormente,\u00a0<b>permitir\u00e1n comprender mejor las variaciones del clima<\/b>, as\u00ed como algunos fen\u00f3menos geol\u00f3gicos y ayudar\u00e1 en el futuro en la mejora de la gesti\u00f3n de los recursos h\u00eddricos.<\/p>\n<p>Tras el despegue, la estaci\u00f3n de seguimiento ubicada en la Ant\u00e1rtida ya ha recibido<b>\u00a0las primeras comunicaciones de los sat\u00e9lites<\/b>\u00a0que, aproximadamente once minutos despu\u00e9s del lanzamiento, comenzaron su separaci\u00f3n del cohete sobre el Oc\u00e9ano Pac\u00edfico. Los datos compartidos muestran que los sat\u00e9lites est\u00e1n funcionando bien y ya se encuentran<b>\u00a0a una altitud de 490 kil\u00f3metros<\/b>, en una \u00f3rbita casi polar -\u00f3rbita que pasa por encima de los polos de un planeta o muy cerca de ellos-, viajando<b>\u00a0a 7,5 kil\u00f3metros por segundo<\/b>.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"story-leaf-body-video marginb20\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Qm-t0DgBVUs\" width=\"100%\" height=\"150\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Los sat\u00e9lites GRACE-FO pasar\u00e1n sus primeros d\u00edas en el espacio situ\u00e1ndose a<b>\u00a0la distancia de separaci\u00f3n necesaria para llevar a cabo su misi\u00f3n, 220 kil\u00f3metros<\/b>. Despu\u00e9s, los cient\u00edficos de la misi\u00f3n comenzar\u00e1n el proceso de recopilaci\u00f3n y procesamiento de datos. Y se espera que dentro de siete meses se publiquen los primeros resultados.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGRACE-FO proporcionar\u00e1 informaci\u00f3n \u00fanica sobre c\u00f3mo funciona nuestro complejo planeta\u201d, se\u00f1ala Thomas Zurbuchen, de la Direcci\u00f3n de Misi\u00f3n Cient\u00edfica de la Nasa,<a href=\"https:\/\/gracefo.jpl.nasa.gov\/news\/134\/twin-spacecraft-launch-to-track-earths-water-movement\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-gtm-element=\"container-child-link\">\u00a0en un comunicado<\/a>. \u201cLos datos de GRACE-FO se usar\u00e1n en todo el mundo para\u00a0<b>mejorar la vida de las personas<\/b>, desde avisar de las predicciones de impactos de sequ\u00eda hasta<b>\u00a0dando informaci\u00f3n de mayor calidad\u00a0<\/b>sobre el uso del agua de los acu\u00edferos subterr\u00e1neos\u201d, contin\u00faa.<\/p>\n<p>Durante los pr\u00f3ximos cinco a\u00f1os -tiempo estimado que va a durar la misi\u00f3n-, GRACE-FO supervisar\u00e1 el movimiento de la masa de agua en de nuestro planeta. Esta misi\u00f3n mejor\u00f3 la comprensi\u00f3n de los procesos del aumento del nivel del mar y la circulaci\u00f3n oce\u00e1nica, proporcion\u00f3 informaci\u00f3n sobre d\u00f3nde se reducen o crecen los recursos de aguas subterr\u00e1neas y mostr\u00f3 d\u00f3nde los suelos m\u00e1s secos contribuyen a ocasionar la sequ\u00eda y los terremotos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPara entender los cambios que tienen lugar en el sistema, necesitamos datos de varias d\u00e9cadas\u201d, a\u00f1ade Frank Webb, de la misi\u00f3n GRACE-FO en el en el Laboratorio de Propulsi\u00f3n a Chorro en Pasadena, California (Estados Unidos). Ahora, \u201cla extensi\u00f3n del registro de datos que hace GRACE, nos permitir\u00e1 distinguir mejor la variabilidad a corto plazo de lo que ocurre en periodos de tiempo m\u00e1s largos\u201d,
