Los cient\u00edficos sacar\u00e1n provecho de ello.<\/p>\n<p>Dos sat\u00e9lites, cada uno del tama\u00f1o de un autom\u00f3vil, volar\u00e1n alrededor de la Tierra a una distancia de 220 km el uno del otro y a 490 km de altitud durante los pr\u00f3ximos cinco a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando el sat\u00e9lite de avanzada pase sobre una monta\u00f1a, se alejar\u00e1 por unos momentos del sat\u00e9lite que lo sigue debido a la masa extra en esa ubicaci\u00f3n y a una gravedad ligeramente mayor. Esta \u00ednfima variaci\u00f3n de distancia es lo que la misi\u00f3n registrar\u00e1 continuamente, porque cada variaci\u00f3n se\u00f1alar\u00e1 un cambio de masa en el planeta justo debajo.<\/p>\n<p>Ahora bien, sobre un per\u00edodo mensual, que ser\u00e1 la unidad de referencia, solo el agua tiene la capacidad de cambiar tan r\u00e1pido. Ya sea en estado l\u00edquido, s\u00f3lido o gaseoso, el agua tiene una masa. Cuando se derrite, la masa de los oc\u00e9anos aumenta. sat\u00e9lites tambi\u00e9n han registrado con exactitud lo que ha perdido la Ant\u00e1rtida, una regi\u00f3n muy dif\u00edcil de estudiar.<\/p>\n<p>Sus equipos producen mapas coloreados de rojo y azul; el rojo muestra una p\u00e9rdida de agua y el azul muestra aumento.<\/p>\n<p>El mapa de California, por ejemplo, se colore\u00f3 fuertemente de rojo durante la sequ\u00eda que afect\u00f3 al estado estadounidense hasta hace poco: cient\u00edficos y poderes p\u00fablicos pudieron cuantificar el nivel de disminuci\u00f3n de las aguas subterr\u00e1neas.<\/p>\n<p>Por el contrario, otras regiones del mundo, como el delta del Okavango en Botsuana, vieron subir sus reservas de agua entre 2002 y 2016 debido a las fuertes precipitaciones.<\/p>\n<p>La renovaci\u00f3n de la misi\u00f3n
