Su m\u00e9todo basado en nanofibras podr\u00eda contribuir a abordar la escasez de agua moderna a\u00a0<em>causa del cambio clim\u00e1tico<\/em>, la contaminaci\u00f3n industrial, las sequ\u00edas y el agotamiento de las aguas subterr\u00e1neas.<\/p>\n<p>Los cient\u00edficos presentan este martes sus resultados en la 256\u00aa charla y Exposici\u00f3n Nacional de la American Chemical Society (ACS), la sociedad cient\u00edfica m\u00e1s extenso del mundo, que conmemora este encuentro hasta este jueves.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recolectar agua del aire<\/strong>\u00a0no es algo novedoso. Hace miles de a\u00f1os, los incas de la regi\u00f3n andina recog\u00edan el roc\u00edo y lo canalizaban a las cisternas. M\u00e1s recientemente, algunos grupos de investigaci\u00f3n han estado desarrollando captadores masivos de niebla en las monta\u00f1as andinas y en \u00c1frica.<\/p>\n<p>Para miniaturizar la generaci\u00f3n de agua y mejorar la eficiencia, Shing-Chung (Josh) Wong y sus alumnos en la Universidad de Akron recurrieron a los pol\u00edmeros electrospun, un material con el que ya hab\u00edan trabajado en lo que va de m\u00e1s de una d\u00e9cada.<\/p>\n<p>El electrospinning (o electrohilado) emplea esfuerzos el\u00e9ctricas para producir fibras de pol\u00edmero que van desde decenas de nan\u00f3metros hasta un micr\u00f3metro, un tama\u00f1o ideal para condensar y exprimir las gotas de agua del aire. Estos pol\u00edmeros de fibra a nanoescala ofrecen una relaci\u00f3n incre\u00edblemente alta de \u00e1rea de superficie a volumen, mucho mayor que la proporcionada por las estructuras y membranas t\u00edpicas utilizadas en los destiladores de agua.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bg-accent mt-50 mb-50\" cite=\"https:\/\/www.ecoticias.com\/tecnologia-verde\/186967\/crean-cosechadora-wong-obtener-40-litros-agua-del-aire#\"><p>A diferencia de los m\u00e9todos existentes, la cosechadora de Wong podr\u00eda funcionar en ambientes des\u00e9rticos totalmente \u00e1ridos gracias a la relaci\u00f3n superficie-\u00e1rea-volumen de la membrana<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Al experimentar con diversos combinaciones de pol\u00edmeros que eran hidr\u00f3filos &#8211;que atraen agua&#8211; e hidrof\u00f3bicos &#8211;que descargan agua&#8211;, el grupo finaliz\u00f3 que un sistema de recolecci\u00f3n de agua podr\u00eda, de hecho, fabricarse utilizando tecnolog\u00eda de nanofibras. El grupo de Wong determin\u00f3 que su membrana de pol\u00edmero podr\u00eda cosechar 744 microgramos por cent\u00edmetro c\u00fabico por hora, que es 91% m\u00e1s alta que las membranas dise\u00f1adas de modo similar sin estas nanofibras.<\/p>\n<div class=\"innerbanner\">\n<p>A diferencia de los m\u00e9todos existentes,\u00a0<strong>la cosechadora de Wong podr\u00eda funcionar en ambientes des\u00e9rticos \u00e1ridos<\/strong>\u00a0a causa de la elevada relaci\u00f3n superficie-\u00e1rea-volumen de la membrana. Adem\u00e1s tendr\u00eda un requisito de energ\u00eda m\u00ednimo. \u00abPodr\u00edamos decir con confianza que, con los avances recientes en bater\u00edas de iones de litio, podr\u00edamos crear un dispositivo m\u00e1s peque\u00f1o del tama\u00f1o de una mochila\u00bb, dice.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Incluso, el dise\u00f1o de la nanofibra de Wong toma agua simult\u00e1neamente y la filtra. La red de fibra electrospun puede actuar como una superficie antiincrustaci\u00f3n, desprendiendo microbios que podr\u00edan acumularse en la superficie de la cosechadora. As\u00ed mismo que el agua ser\u00eda \u00abclara y libre de contaminantes\u00bb y de la noche a la ma\u00f1ana potable una vez que se recoge, seg\u00fan asegura.<\/p>\n<p>Wong espera obtener fondos adicionales para crear un prototipo de la cosechadora de agua dulce. \u00c9l anticipa que, una vez que su equipo pueda producir el prototipo, su creaci\u00f3n no deber\u00eda ser
