Para ajustar el pron\u00f3stico, el nuevo modelo integra no solo los factores geogr\u00e1ficos sino tambi\u00e9n ecol\u00f3gicos y gen\u00e9ticos que impactan de forma diferencial sobre las poblaciones a distintas escalas espaciales\u201d, a\u00f1adi\u00f3 la investigadora.<\/p>\n<p>La herramienta desarrollada se aplica a poblaciones que se encuentran en los l\u00edmites de la tolerancia fisiol\u00f3gica y ecol\u00f3gica de la especie. Tal como revela la revista \u201cGlobal Change Biology\u201d, Premoli y colegas del Reino Unido y de Espa\u00f1a validaron su modelo con \u00e9xito al aplicarlo en la haya europea (Fagus sylvatica).<\/p>\n<p>Esa especie de \u00e1rbol es sensible a la desecaci\u00f3n y por lo tanto vulnerable al deterioro en el balance h\u00eddrico que sufren las poblaciones en el noreste de la pen\u00ednsula ib\u00e9rica. Los investigadores se basaron en un dise\u00f1o experimental utilizando distintas fuentes de informaci\u00f3n existentes: inventarios forestales regionales, mapas de cobertura y datos clim\u00e1ticos. E integraron tambi\u00e9n datos ecol\u00f3gicos y gen\u00e9ticos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs\u00ed como nuestra herramienta predice la combinaci\u00f3n de factores que pueden incrementar la vulnerabilidad de una especie, tambi\u00e9n se\u00f1ala el manejo de los suelos y otras variables que a escala local pueden salvaguardar la estructura y funci\u00f3n de los ecosistemas forestales\u201d, afirm\u00f3 Premoli. Y a\u00f1adi\u00f3 que el m\u00e9todo de an\u00e1lisis sugerido es lo suficientemente flexible para ser aplicado a estudios de campo, experimentales y gen\u00e9tico-poblacionales.<\/p>\n<p>El avance tambi\u00e9n fue liderado por Albert Vil\u00e0\u2010Cabrera, del Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n Ecol\u00f3gica y Aplicaciones Forestales, en Catalu\u00f1a, Espa\u00f1a, y Alistair Jump, de la Universidad de Stirling, en Escocia.
