El di\u00f3xido de carbono se genera cuando se quema cualquier sustancia que contiene carbono<strong>; as\u00ed, el CO<sub>2\u00a0<\/sub>es un gas abundante en nuestra atm\u00f3sfera, producido principalmente por las actividades de los seres humanos, especialmente por el uso de combustibles f\u00f3siles.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"region-content-top-main\" class=\"grid-13 region region-content-top-main\">\n<div class=\"region-inner region-content-top-main-inner\">\n<div id=\"block-system-main\" class=\"block block-system block-main block-system-main odd block-without-title\">\n<div class=\"block-inner clearfix\">\n<div class=\"content clearfix\">\n<article id=\"node-noticia-108260\" class=\"node node-noticia node-published node-not-promoted node-not-sticky author-redaccion-iagua odd clearfix\">\n<div class=\"content clearfix\">\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-descripcion field-type-text-long field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>Dado que en las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas su producci\u00f3n se ha elevado vertiginosamente, hoy el CO<sub>2<\/sub>es uno de los principales combustibles del calentamiento global. Pero, por fortuna, los bosques son sumideros naturales de esta amenaza planetaria, pues por su composici\u00f3n los \u00e1rboles absorben CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0de la atm\u00f3sfera a trav\u00e9s de la fotos\u00edntesis y devuelven ox\u00edgeno.<\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, es poco conocido que tambi\u00e9n los manglares re\u00fanen condiciones mucho m\u00e1s \u00f3ptimas para esa funci\u00f3n. Cerca del 60 % del carbono acumulado de los bosques del mundo est\u00e1 en las franjas intermareales \u2014aquellas zonas entre el ambiente terrestre y el marino\u2014.\u00a0<strong>Con 300.000 hect\u00e1reas de manglares, Colombia es el cuarto pa\u00eds del continente americano con mayor extensi\u00f3n de manglares\u00a0<\/strong>y el d\u00e9cimo segundo en el mundo en relaci\u00f3n con la cantidad de carbono por unidad de \u00e1rea.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfQu\u00e9 es el carbono azul? Un potente elemento asociado al metabolismo del planeta: las rutas catab\u00f3licas de los manglares liberan el carbono que est\u00e1 en el interior del suelo, dej\u00e1ndolo en la atm\u00f3sfera. Asimismo, sus rutas anab\u00f3licas lo capturan para transformarlo en biomasa \u2014materia org\u00e1nica de origen vegetal\u2014.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Colombia es el cuarto pa\u00eds del continente americano con mayor extensi\u00f3n de manglares<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u00abEl carbono que se encuentra entre la costa y el mar se denomina \u00abazul\u00bb porque est\u00e1 asociado al oc\u00e9ano\u00bb, cont\u00f3 la ingeniera biol\u00f3gica e investigadora de la Universidad de Antioquia, Ana Mar\u00eda Valencia Palacios, quien particip\u00f3 en el estudio &#8216;Manglares de Colombia, una nueva mirada&#8217;, liderado por Juan Felipe Blanco Libreros, bi\u00f3logo y profesor de la Alma M\u00e1ter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00abEl promedio nacional es de 527 toneladas (de carbono azul) por hect\u00e1rea sobre el suelo, y de 82 megagramos por hect\u00e1rea de biomasa\u00bb, puntualiz\u00f3 Blanco Libreros.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00abMientras los mangles que viven en aguas con mayor grado de salinidad, como en la costa Caribe, est\u00e1n invirtiendo su energ\u00eda en procesos como la desalinizaci\u00f3n de sus tejidos, los mangles del Pac\u00edfico pueden invertirla principalmente en crecer, alcanzando lturas imponentes\u00bb, explic\u00f3 Blanco Libreros.<\/p>\n<p>Investigaciones recientes evidencian que los manglares del Pac\u00edfico, al sur del pa\u00eds \u2014en los departamentos de Nari\u00f1o, Cauca y Valle\u2014, est\u00e1n considerados entre los m\u00e1s altos del mundo, ya que esa zona re\u00fane las condiciones \u2014lluvias, descarga constante de aguas de r\u00edo y ausencia de ciclones\u2014\u00a0<strong>para que los manglares crezcan y mantengan una producci\u00f3n elevada de carbono azul.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, todas las especies de manglares del territorio nacional son privilegiadas por las condiciones clim\u00e1ticas y la geograf\u00eda. En ese sentido, y sobre los individuos asociados al r\u00edo Atrato, se han dado hallazgos sobre su nivel de resiliencia: \u00ab<strong>Muchos de nuestros mangles no alcanzan a percibir la falta de lluvia que traen los fen\u00f3menos clim\u00e1ticos, porque el Atrato los est\u00e1 nutriendo permanentemente\u00bb,<\/strong>\u00a0advirti\u00f3 Blanco Libreros.<\/p>\n<h2>El Pi\u00f1uelo: resiliente nativo<\/h2>\n<p>Los manglares se originaron en el sudeste asi\u00e1tico y migraron por \u00c1frica hasta,finalmente, llegar a Am\u00e9rica. En el mundo hay aproximadamente 80 especies y solo una de ellas es nativa de este continente: Pelliciera Rhizophorae o mangle Pi\u00f1uelo, que crece entre Costa Rica y Colombia, y cuyas poblaciones m\u00e1s extensas est\u00e1n en el golfo de Tribug\u00e1.<\/p>\n<p>El mangle rojo \u2014<i>Rizhopora mangle<\/i>\u2014 y el mangle blanco \u2014Laguncularia racemosa\u2014 son las especies m\u00e1s abundantes a escala nacional,sin embargo, en las costas del Pac\u00edfico vive una especie nativa: \u00ab<strong>Los manglares de la Serran\u00eda del Baud\u00f3 pertenecen a un tipo conocido como \u00abde borde\u00bb, es decir, que crecen al lado de acantilados o estructuras rocosas, lo cual genera unas especies con caracter\u00edsticas particulares, y en el caso del Pi\u00f1uelo, \u00fanicas\u00bb<\/strong>, puntualiz\u00f3 la ingeniera Valencia Palacios.<\/p>\n<h2>\u00bfProtege Colombia a sus manglares?<\/h2>\n<p>Con la creaci\u00f3n del Ministerio del Medio Ambiente, hace cerca de 30 a\u00f1os, Colombia comenz\u00f3 a mirar a sus bosques. En la \u00faltima d\u00e9cada, tras el Protocolo de Kioto, se viene monitoreando la deforestaci\u00f3n. Sin embargo, \u00ablos manglares son la cenicienta del tema ambiental, ya que ni el Ideam ni el Ministerio los consideran bosques\u00bb, denunci\u00f3 Blanco Libreros, al enfatizar en la importancia de proteger estos reservorios paliativos ante las emisiones t\u00f3xicas que se mueven en la atm\u00f3sfera terrestre.<\/p>\n<p>Pero la ausencia de pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas para proteger los manglares contrasta con la conexi\u00f3n de las comunidades que viven cerca de estos ecosistemas,\u00a0<strong>que se han convertido en sus guardianes, ya que constituyen su fuente de sustento a trav\u00e9s de actividades relacionadas con pesca y ecoturismo.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Las condiciones clim\u00e1ticas y geogr\u00e1ficas de los manglares del Pac\u00edfico colombiano favorecen la producci\u00f3n de carbono azul<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>En los manglares viven especies de alto valor comercial como el r\u00f3balo, la mojarra y la piangua \u2014un molusco usado en la cocina ancestral del Pac\u00edfico\u2014. La extracci\u00f3n artesanal de esta \u00faltima es la principal actividad econ\u00f3mica de cerca de 11 000 familias de la costa del Pac\u00edfico colombiano.<strong>\u00a0En el Caribe los canales entre los manglares son visitados por especies carism\u00e1ticas como manat\u00edes, tortugas, perros venaderos, mapaches cangrejeros y monos aulladores.\u00a0<\/strong>Los manglares, su hogar de paso o permanente, son longevas arboledas que en algunos casos han permanecido en su sitio actual desde hace cerca de 3000 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A partir de la convenci\u00f3n de Par\u00eds en 2015, cada pa\u00eds sabe cu\u00e1nto carbono tienen sus costas, para financiar la protecci\u00f3n de manglares y para compensar emisiones a trav\u00e9s de la venta de bonos de carbono.<\/strong>\u00a0En Colombia, se destaca la inversi\u00f3n de la empresa Apple, que en alianza con Conservation International e Invemar, asumi\u00f3 la protecci\u00f3n de 27.000 hect\u00e1reas en la bah\u00eda de Cispat\u00e1 \u2014en el departamento de C\u00f3rdoba\u2014, con lo cual se est\u00e1n capturando un mill\u00f3n de toneladas m\u00e9tricas de CO2.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Colombia.-Los manglares son considerados uno de los dep\u00f3sitos m\u00e1s importantes de carbono azul.
