Entre 1979 y 1996 la p\u00e9rdida neta de hielo marino fue de aproximadamente 21.500 kil\u00f3metros cuadrados por a\u00f1o. Sin embargo, en el per\u00edodo 1996-2013 la p\u00e9rdida de hielo fue de 50.500 kil\u00f3metros cuadrados por a\u00f1o. Es decir, en los \u00faltimos 10 a\u00f1os, el planeta ha perdido 505.000 kil\u00f3metros cuadrados de hielo marino, pr\u00e1cticamente la misma superficie que el conjunto de Espa\u00f1a.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El estudio difundido ahora gracias a un reportaje de la periodista y divulgadora cient\u00edfica de la NASA Maria Josep Vi\u00f1as reitera que el aumento del hielo marino en la Ant\u00e1rtida no compensan la p\u00e9rdida de hielo marino del \u00c1rtico, acelerado de las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00abA pesar de que el hielo marino ant\u00e1rtico alcanz\u00f3 un nuevo m\u00e1ximo r\u00e9cord en septiembre pasado, el hielo marino mundial sigue disminuyendo\u00bb, ha indicado Claire Parkinson, autora del estudio e investigadora del Centro Goddard de la NASA en Greenbelt, Maryland. El equipo de la profesora Parkinson ha utilizado datos de microondas recogidos por la NASA y sat\u00e9lites del Departamento de Defensa de los sat\u00e9lites para concretar la evoluci\u00f3n de la superficie de hielo en mares y oceanos de todo el planeta.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Efectos sobre el cambio clim\u00e1tico<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El an\u00e1lisis muestra que en el per\u00edodo de los \u00faltimos 35 a\u00f1os, la tendencia en las extensiones de hielo fue a la baja en todos los meses del a\u00f1o, incluso los correspondientes al \u00c1rtico y la extensi\u00f3n m\u00e1xima del hielo marino de la Ant\u00e1rtida.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El hielo marino ha disminuido en casi todas las regiones del \u00c1rtico, mientras que los aumentos del hielo marino en la Ant\u00e1rtida est\u00e1n menos extendidas geogr\u00e1ficamente. Aunque la cubierta de hielo marino se expandi\u00f3 en la mayor parte del Oc\u00e9ano Ant\u00e1rtico entre 1979 y 2013, se redujo sustancialmente en los mares de Bellingshausen y Amundsen. Estos dos mares se encuentran cerca de la Pen\u00ednsula Ant\u00e1rtica, una regi\u00f3n que ha calentado significativamente en las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00abUna de las razones dde preocupaci\u00f3n por la disminuci\u00f3n del hielo marino es que el hielo marino es altamente reflectante [de las radiaciones solares], mientras que el oc\u00e9ano l\u00edquido es muy absorbente\u00bb, dijo Parkinson. \u00abAs\u00ed que cuando se reduce el \u00e1rea de cobertura de hielo del mar, hay una zona de hielo marino m\u00e1s peque\u00f1o que refleja la radiaci\u00f3n solar de vuelta al espacio. Esto significa m\u00e1s retenci\u00f3n de la radiaci\u00f3n solar en el sistema de la Tierra y un incremento del calentamiento global\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">FUENTE: La
